Hi-Wire August 3 Pints and Pottery: Mushroom Sculptures

$55.00

Date: Sunday, August 3, 2025, 2pm-4:30pm (Please arrive early if you plan to order a beverage before class. Plan to end on time.)

Location: Hi-Wire Brewery, 800 Taylor St, Durham, NC 27701

Enjoy a beverage at Hi-Wire Brewery in Durham, NC while you build, sculpt, and paint your own mini mushroom sculptures! You will be provided with 1 pound of clay and several colors of underglaze to choose from.

I will teach you how to make miniature mushroom sculptures. After creating a few, you may paint them with underglaze.

At the end of class, I will take your creations to my studio to be fired, waxed, clear-glazed, and fired again. They can be kept outside in the garden or inside the house! Your sculptures will be available for pick-up at Hi Wire in Durham once they are finished.

***Very important*** Pottery is a bit of science and a lot of physics, and random things happen in the creation process. I will try my absolute best to care for your creation from start to finish, but strange things do happen as slabs dry, such as cracking and warping. I will explain how you can likely prevent them while we are sculpting, but I’m always surprised by what clay will do. By signing up for this class, you accept the fate of the kiln gods, and there are no refunds or replacements for projects that do not survive the process.

Your dishes will be available for pick-up at Hi-Wire in Durham once they are finished.

FAQ:

Q: What kinds of mushrooms can I make?

A: I will show you how to build the basic structure and provide strategies for decoration. Then you get to be creative! You can use a picture on your phone for reference, or invent a mushroom 🍄

Q: Do I need to know how to work with clay to take this class?

A: No - you do not need to have any knowledge about working with clay to make mini mushroom and snail scupltures using this method!

Q: What do I need to bring?

A: Your ID for a beverage and clothes you don’t mind getting a little dirty. I will provide everything needed to make your dishes. Grab a friend and bring them too!

Q: How long is the class?

A: The instruction portion of the class will last about 30 minutes. Then you will have 2 hours to explore and finish your sculptures, and I will be there to assist. Please plan to end on time.

Please be sure to read my FAQ about "returns & exchanges" before purchasing.
